Sgt. George A. Kaufman, of Fort Smith, Arkansas, swaps out one street sign for another in Krefeld, Germany. Kaufman, assigned to a 9th Army Signal Company, was snapped doing his own part for de-nazification on March 23, 1945. It's only fitting that Adolf-Hitler-Strasse be replaced by Roosevelt Boulevard as the American, British, Canadian, and French armies moved inexorably eastward. U.S. Army Signal Corps photo.
